Structures of Power explores how political and corporate elites influence social and economic inequality in Ireland. Adopting an anti-capitalist, neo-colonial and activist approach, it critiques the corruption in Irish politics, the neglect of rural communities, and the prioritisation of the interests of the oligarchs, seen in urban development. Economic division is embedded into the fabric of daily life, etched into the very architecture of our society, controlling our behaviour and the patterns of our culture.
This project seeks to unearth the unseen forces that shape our choices and apply subconscious control through manipulation and physical barriers. Contrasting state-funded projects like the New Children’s Hospital in Dublin with the continuous neglect of essential infrastructure in rural communities, such as Scoil Íosagáin in Buncrana. Despite over 20 years of complaints, funding for the school has repeatedly been denied. Drawing our attention towards the quiet injustice communities face, revealing how power structures create economic division, shape the paths we follow, and the very means that allow us to grow.
