As humans and as inhabitants of this planet, we have an undeniable connection to the natural world. Yet, in recent times, I feel a sense of detachment as we have alienated ourselves from our true home. Domestic living and this artificial world we created have destroyed a certain part of ourselves. Even within the confines of these shelters, we call home, we try to bridge the gap between the inside and outside. We transplant fragments of the outdoors, introducing plants into our living spaces, decorating walls with photographs capturing glimpses of nature, and domesticating animals from the wild to share our homes. It's an unconscious effect to transform our mere houses into a semblance of the wild.
As humans and as residents of the animal kingdom, our desire to create has helped propel us forward. I am interested in the people who abstain from passivity, who don’t wait for circumstances to unfold, but rather take action into their own hands. An example is found in those who chose to live ‘off the grid,’ establishing a connection with the elements, and embracing a life of self-sufficiency and communal responsibility.
Motivated by this exploration of self-reliance, I embarked on a personal journey to disconnect from the comforts of modern living. Venturing into the primal wilderness, I constructed my own shelter, sparked my own fire, and immersed myself in what I consider an authentic way of life. So in this series, I seek to capture the essence of going ‘off the grid,’ in a journey back to the roots of existence to rediscover the relationship between humanity and nature.
