There is an increasing contrast between life in a rural community compared to an urban environment. Rural spaces hold particular qualities shaped by patience, time and their proximity to the natural environment. Things are allowed to age, where erosion becomes part of the landscape and where care is expressed through repair rather than replacement. The essence of the space is not perfect, nor does it try to be. The marks of life accumulate slowly over time, creating environments with unique character rather than a constructed aesthetic.
Within this project, I photograph and document the spirit of villages in Northern Hungary, exploring the rhythms and substance of rural living. A portrait of a way of life that is slowly disappearing, altered by migration and inflicted upon by modernisation. I don’t intend to romanticise rural life, but rather to observe it with attentiveness. I attempt to create a series that unveils the subtle beauty and quiet resilience in the mundane everyday life of a space that doesn’t ask for attention.
